Guide to bathhouses
Bathhouses have become the face of Australia's sauna boom. They combine saunas with warm mineral or magnesium pools, steam rooms and cold plunges in one space, usually booked in sessions of 60 to 120 minutes. The atmosphere sits somewhere between a day spa and a public bath: relaxed, social and unhurried.
Most bathhouses are swimwear-on and supply or hire towels. Prices for a casual session typically range from the mid-$30s to around $70, with memberships and multi-visit packs for regulars. Popular slots, especially weekend mornings and weeknight evenings, book out, so reserve ahead.
How to make the most of a bathhouse
Move through the spaces in cycles of heat, cold and rest rather than staying in one place. Drink water throughout, keep voices low in quiet areas and leave your phone in the locker. If you are new, ask staff for their suggested circuit.
SaunaFindr currently lists 42 venues under bathhouses, with starting prices from $27.
Frequently asked questions
What should I bring to a bathhouse?
Swimwear, thongs, a water bottle and a hair tie. Many bathhouses provide towels and lockers, while others charge for them, so check the venue website.
How long are bathhouse sessions?
Usually 60–120 minutes. Some venues offer shorter early-bird sessions at a lower price.
Are bathhouses good for beginners?
Yes. Bathhouses are one of the easiest ways to start, because you can choose how hot and cold to go and how long to stay in each space. Staff can explain the circuit when you arrive.
