Guide to beachside saunas
Australia's coastline is made for sauna culture. Beachside saunas let you alternate between heat and an ocean swim, and many run sunrise sessions that have become rituals for local communities. Some are permanent; others are mobile saunas that set up on the sand on certain days.
Ocean safety matters: swim between the flags where possible, check conditions, and never swim alone.
SaunaFindr currently lists 13 venues under beachside saunas, with starting prices from $49.
Frequently asked questions
Is the ocean cold enough to use as a plunge?
For much of the year, yes, especially in southern states, where winter water can drop well below 18°C. In summer it is more refreshing than cold.
Are beachside saunas good for beginners?
Yes. You can enjoy the sauna without the ocean dip; if you do swim, stay in safe, patrolled water and within your depth.
